Another one of my disappointments has been revealed

Friends, I've been around for many, many years. I've come across some good people during my 39 years and I have been around some not-so-pleasant people. And this is dating back to my days in Texas too.

Well, I just read a story about a former humane society director in Oceanside who was arrested for obtaining controlled substances under false pretenses. Now, this is not just a person who has been in the public spotlight in the San Diego area for some three years. This person is a former high school classmate who I dated on many occassions in the 1980s.

Stacy Steel is very much like you and me: human. What she did was wrong, yes; and unfortunately, what Stac did will truly affect her career wherever she goes. Think about it: you put a $95,000-plus a year job and your career at risk for obtaining 10 bottles of opiate hydrocodone for your own use. And worst of all, directing your fellow workers to obtain such drugs. Absolutely an incorrect decision on her part if that was indeed the case.

It is not worth it! If I had a job like that and earn that much money a year, you better believe that I will conduct myself correctly per federal, state and local regulations.

I remember some 20 years ago when Stac once said she wanted to be a veterinarian. And she went to college afterwards to study it; one year at UNR and the last three at UNLV. There is one thing that I never told anyone, that it was OK to do something if nobody didn't see you do it.

I don't know if Stac will face any jail time for what she did; in all probability probation and a hefty fine, but you know something: she better think very long and hard at where she was in 2003; and what she did, because it is very doubtful that she will work in a humane society again.

However, there is one word that does not go away: redemption. If you look at how the late Jack Barry overcame not working on national television for 10 years due to his involvement in the quiz show scandals and return to greater heights than he was before in the 1970s, that is called redemption. The same holds true with Marv Albert.

So I will close with this: Stacy, it is not too late to recapture what you lost; but let me tell you one thing...if you ever get that chance to run a shelter again, do it the right way. I will pray that everything will turn out OK and perhaps something positive will come out of this.
