Goodbye, Vickie Lynn...
As most of you already know, Anna Nicole Smith (real name Vickie Lynn Hogan, later Vickie Lynn Smith) has passed away of unknown causes at the age of 39. A very sad story indeed, especially with the you-know-what she went through over the past five or six months, including the death of her son Daniel Smith last September.
Just sad. A five-month-old daughter is now without a mother. And Anna Nicole leaves behind a fan following; some of which were around since she made her debut 15 years ago.
This truly ranks up there in the same category with Marilyn Monroe's untimely death back in 1962. It's just sad when you see these familiar faces, not just in Hollywood but in sports, or life in general, and suddenly, they're gone.
I was hoping, as I wrote a while back, that she would have the strength to live on after the death of her son, as was the case with Doris Adkisson, the matriach of pro wrestling's Von Erich family. Sadly, Anna Nicole was unable to overcome her demons and subsequent emotional distress.
What a shame. Is it true that the good die young? Well, with the list I've seen, from Linda Sobek to River Phoenix, from Chris Adams to Gino Hernandez, from James Dean to Kurt Cobain; it's beginning to look that way.
My prayers go out to her family. I am sure they are truly devistated by this loss.

RD Fact
In the past 52 years of Playboy, and about 625 Playmates that have appeared, only 31 Playmates are deceased. Of this group, 11 of them, including Anna Nicole Smith and Marilyn Monroe, did not live to celebrate their 40th birthday. Two of these late playmates were from the 1990s (Smith and Elisa Bridges). All 120 of the Playmates from the 1980s and from this decade are still alive.

On a technicality, you're 100% right. Dorothy Stratten was Playmate of the Year for 1980, but she attained Playmate status in 1979.

The playmates from the 1980s are the ones from January 1981 until December 1990, and yes, all of the ones from 1980 are alive, so either way...
Anna's death still a mystery -- I really can't say that she dropped dead of a heart attack, brain seizure or anything like that; so I will let the authorities in Florida make that determination.
Still a sad story either way you slice it. And the way I see it right at this point, it's starting to sound like 1962 all over again, after the hoopla over Marilyn Monroe's sudden death.
I feel for her family, and especially for the five-month-old daughter. This story obviously is not gonna go away anytime soon.

Thank you Robert for this bittersweet comment on my blog, and for your beautiful words here.
This is interesting about Playmates. I was almost a Playmate, but decided I couldn't pose nude because I didn't want my children to ever see it (future children.) Now that I have 2 sons, I'm glad. But I really feel for these women, the machine they go through. It was bad enough on a sitcom.
God Bless you.
