June 1 2009 edition

First off, thanks for the well wishes from my brief sniffle. I did have a slight fever of 100.4, but that drop to about 97 afterwards. It's a real bummer I couldn't do much this weekend - hopefully Pat and the gang had a great Saturday night at Timber's. I do know some others went to Griffin's - talk about a battle of where to go...

I will say this about The Hills' last episode as I know it: they started out as young men and women waiting to earn their wings, and now the time has arrived to fly. Lauren will do well with her clothing line, books, and so on - she can pretty much own Laguna at this point. Heidi and Spencer - or Sonny & Cher II tied the knot in Pasadena (of all places!). I see it this way, all of us had to step up to the plate to make it. Whitney Port is doing that now in New York as we speak, and the USC Trojan alum has a pretty good future ahead of her. Cheryl decided that L.A. was the place for her almost 20 years ago, and look where she's at now. I took that chance in 2000 myself, and after a struggle of some eight years, I'm slowly heading towards a great future here myself. Eventually one day I may join Cheryl and Lydia in some projects, time permitting of course...

For the youngins, I encourage you to do the same. As the Steve Winwood song goes, whie you see a chance, take it.

You know, I am somewhat moved by those who remember me for the Scout than anything else. It makes me want to find a reconditioned Scout and buy it. Hard to find these days of course, but The Scout was a part of my family for 15 years. The Gold one...the '72 Scout...we took to Europe, and never - ever had a single problem with it, outside of some moron screwing it up while it was transported from Europe to the United States. The '79 Scout, we bought that before we moved to Nevada in '81. Both times we traded a Ford F-100 pickup.

I can imagine how the Scouts were used here in So Cal - back in the day when you could take 'em to the beach. Can't do that anymore, of course, but that was back in the day when you could do almost anything out here...

With that said, busy month coming up. If you ever get a chance to hear Michael Sweet and Susanna Hoffs CD, give it a listen. While they did this record some time ago, it was a recreation of some great classic 60s and 70s hits - California sound at its finest. They are going to do another CD together later on this year with more covers. Good for them.

Lastly, a couple in North Carolina will be celebrating a Golden Wedding anniversary this month. I won't say much, but let's just say he was the guy that used to turn aces and deuces on a popular 1970s game show on NBC and later became a sensational salesman on an instant bargain show years later. More on that next time around.

Till then...

Rob
